1. Dr. Verghese Kurien is known as the 'Father of Milk'. He revolutionised the Indian milk production sector. His contribution was important in increasing the prosperity and quality in the field of milk production.
2. Dr. Varghese Kurien was born on 26 November 1921 in Kozhikode, Kerala. He received his early education in Mithapur and then went to America for middle and higher education and obtained a degree from Maxwell School of Agriculture, Los Angeles.
3. One of Kurien's major contributions was his strengthening of the milk production sector through organisational diplomacy and promotion of technology through research and development. He founded the Amul Co-operative Dairy Union of Gujarat, later called Amul, in 1949. Amul's objective was to improve the economic condition and quality of life of the poor milk producers of Gujarat.
4. Kurien, through Amul, made Gujarat the most important milk producing state in the country. He not only promoted milk production but he also revolutionised the lives of the farmers of Gujarat.
